Dear Chatty Kathy,
I’m a freshman and I’m really worried that I’m not going to make any new friends this year. I want to meet new people, do you have any tips?
– Friendly Freshman
Hi there FF,
Don’t worry about being concerned with making friends. A lot of your peers are going to be going through the exact thing right now. It’s scary starting at a new school, but things will be much easier for you if you just put yourself out there. You could join a club or a sports team! It’s much easier to make friends when you surround yourself with people of similar interests to you. CKSS has tons of extra-curricular activities available. Whether you’re artistic, athletic, academic, or anything in-between, you’ll be able to find something you’re interested in! Best of luck in your search for other friendly people like yourself!
XOXO, Chatty Kathy
Dear Chatty Kathy,
I’m only in the first month of my senior year and I’m already feeling too stressed to function. School itself isn’t overwhelming, it’s just that I have no idea what to do with my life. Seeing reminders about post-secondary is straight up nerve-wracking, Will I ever figure it out?
– Stressed Senior.
To answer your question: YES, you WILL figure it out. Do you need to have it all figured out right now? NO! Most students in university don’t even know what they want to do. Is that cause for stress? Absolutely not. If you’re feeling stressed out – don’t worry, it happens to the best of us – just take a deep breath and remember to take each day as it comes. Focus on the present day and the current situation. For some practical advice, make sure you’re getting enough sleep at night and eating a balanced diet; it makes a WORLD of difference. Lastly, surround yourself with supportive people whom you can reach out to when you’re feeling overwhelmed. I can guarantee that it will all work out eventually.
