On Thursday, October the 30th, as the school bell rang and the school emptied, a change occurred at CKSS. The halls became a haunted Halloween wonderland; perfect for the dance that would be starting in just a few short hours.

The hallways and gym were given a very scary treatment by the decorating committee, led by Aneel Jagdeo and Jenna Dempster. With ghoulish ghosts and spooky skeleton lights setting the mood, all of the students who attended the dance felt an immediate Halloween spirit growing inside them. Many students were even heard saying that the decorations were their favourite part of the night.

The DJs Mark Stanley and Dale James had everyone dancing all night long to many hit songs. There were tons of top 40 dance mixes played as well as classic Halloween songs such as Thriller, Time Warp, and the Ghostbusters Theme. It was obvious that everyone had been dancing the night away, as most people were leaving the gym looking tired, but with smiles on their faces.

About halfway through the night the traditional Halloween costume contest took place with three categories. Jonathan Kirkwood won “Best Male Costume” with his incredible Jack Skellington costume complete with bat bowtie and skeleton face paint.  Mayuraah Rajasi stole the show with her incredible Princess Jasmine costume, which won her the title of “Best Female Costume” of the night. Finally, the “Best Couple Costume” went to Cathleen McRitchie and Blake Smith with their amazing Cosmo and Wanda costumes from the cartoon “Fairly Odd Parents”.

The Halloween dance was a fun night full of incredible costumes, great dancing, and lots of laughs. It was the perfect way to get into the Halloween spirit and an even better way to end the month of October.
